Recent events in Burkina Faso hold immensely rich lessons not only for people in that country but also for Afrikans throughout the continent and diaspora of Afrika, as well as for progressive forces all over the World. Those of us who regard ourselves as the uncompromising socialist adherents to the Pan-Afrikan Revolutionary Line of Osagyefo Kwame Nkrumah, Mantsebi Adorkor Kofi, Ruben Um Nyobe, Felix-Roland Moumie, Patrice Lumumba, Pierre Mulele, Mehdi Ben Barka, Sekou Ahmed Toure, Paulette Nardal, Frantz Fanon, Walter Rodney, Amilcar Cabral and others, take huge inspiration from the conviction, shared by the now vindicated Thomas Isidore Sankara with Steve Bantu Biko, that it is better to die for an idea that will live than to live for an idea that will die! How our dearest Sankara must now be feeling absolved by the new Afrikan chapters of World History currently being written mainly by the insurgent new generations of people in the country of his birth!
Citizens’ Arrest of Blaise Compaore
So, after twenty seven years of being imposed as the murderous French quisling of Euro-Amerikkkan Imperialism who, as did Flt-Lt Jerry John Rawlings in Ghana, bloodily carried out the abortion of a radicalising process that could well have reignited the flames of the Pan-Afrikan Revolution for Global Justice in West Afrika, and rather took Burkina Faso back into the doldrums of Neocolonialism and Recolonization, Blaise Compaore has been overthrown and flung disgracefully into the garbage tank of History. We must ensure that such an utterly depraved, wantonly blood-spilling and incorrigibly criminal monstrosity like Blaise Compaore is not given any kind of safe haven in Ghana of all places, but rather compelled either to be flown by his master-puppeteers into exile in France, or returned to face proper Justice before the courts of the resurgent people of Burkina Faso. Progressive forces in West Afrika must be prepared to effect Citizens’ Arrest of Compaore, were he to venture and dare to step beyond the borders of the country in which he subjected people to his brutal despotism.
Lessons from the Exposure of Pseudo-Democracy in Afrika
There are many lessons to be derived from the recent chequered uprisings not only in Burkina Faso but also in Mali, Guinea, Libya and some of the other countries of North Afrika dubbed the Breaking points or Fissures of the so-called Arab Spring. Among such lessons is the one about the increasing exposure of the caricature bourgeois multi-party order of Pseudo-Democracy camouflaging the military-bureaucratic tyrannical regimes perpetuating Neocolonialism under the criminal roughshod of the predatory dictatorship of Euro-Amerikkkan Imperialism in contemporary Afrika. The 1990s saw opprobrious military politicians who, even with their deceptive radical gimmicks, performed loyally in the neocolonialist service of Euro-Amerikkkan Imperialism, change their Armed Forces uniforms to wear civilian attires in order to cosmetically transform their hordes of neo-Nazi-style fanatical zealots into phalanges of caricature bourgeois political parties to contest and, most often, get declared as winners of elections; and, in accordance with their own fabricated bogus constitutions, preside over governments which still functioned more like military-bureaucratic tyrannical regimes in camouflage, rather than as genuinely open democratic governments in many countries of Afrika.
Despite the fact that this opened a little bit of some kind of bourgeois democratic space for progressive forces of certain hues and shades to utilise creatively, it also most cunningly entrenched further Neocolonialism upon the much stronger capitalist globalization waves of Neo-Liberalism; and it even much greater enlarged the floodgates for the neocolonialist onslaught of Euro-Amerikkkan Imperialism, with a more virulent agenda of Genocide/Ecocide, for the more sinister militarisation, depopulation and recolonization of Afrika, with AFRICOM of the USA at the forefront and the resort to Ebola and similar Bio-Warfare and chemical killing poisons and other Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD). Moreover, it has also led to the installation of even more expensive, worthless and pseudo-democratic caricature bourgeois trappings of the State machinery of the neocolonialist dictatorship of Euro-Amerikkkan Imperialism in Afrika, with exorbitantly refurbished legislative, executive, judicial and other organs such as parliaments, members of which keep irresponsibly increasing salaries, bonuses and privileges for themselves and their partners in crimes of state pillage; with lots of dysfunctional ministries and other organs of misgovernment, profligacy and maldevelopment that have distanced themselves more and more from ordinary masses of people, while outrageously increasing their own iniquitous dens of corruption, kleptocracy and other criminal abuses of human, peoples’ and Mother Earth rights with gross impunity, in most parts of the continent and diaspora of Afrika, including Ghana today! To keep this pernicious disorder of things intact for the benefit of the Neo-Liberalism globalization agenda of Euro-Amerikkan Imperialism and its neocolonialist quislings and their cronies in and beyond Afrika, lurk menacingly the shadowy figures of the military politicians like Jerry Rawlings, Olusegun Obasanjo and their ilk, may be to be joined now in exile by Blaise Compaore, pretending to be guardians of constitutional multi-party Democracy!
What is Left of “the Self-Proclaiming Official Left” in Ghana and its Soundings
Since the 1990s as well, particularly in countries like Ghana, we have a section of what used to regard itself as the Left virtually dissolving itself into, or becoming mere appendages, or simply apologists, of the mainstream caricature bourgeois political parties. While sometimes making revolutionary sounding criticisms of the status quo, they display selective amnesia in forgetting, whenever it suits them, the grassroots democratic politics from below and best practice traditions of Positive Action as very well expounded and demonstrated by Osagyefo Kwame Nkrumah. They rather most often seek to direct people towards looking up to the Establishment and its state institutions and elitist forces for reforms, with a fetishistic absolutization of the bourgeois concept of the rule of Law, instead of upholding the genuinely democratic principle of only the Rule of Just Law! They appear to be acting as if the caricature bourgeois dispensation of Pseudo-Democracy, granted albeit under mass pressure by Flt-Lt Jerry Rawlings and his neocolonialist master-puppeteers of Euro-Amerikkkan Imperialism, under the jackboots of the military-bureaucratic tyrannical regime of the so-called Provisional National Defence Council (PNDC), and its accompanying consensus among the wannabe comprador bourgeois elitist fortune-hunters, and its enshrinement in the 1992 Constitution of the so-called Fourth Republic, is the greatest heights the Struggle for Democracy can reach in contemporary Ghana. So they do not want much rocking of the status quo boat for quite some time into the future! Even whilst arguing sometimes for the possibilities of radical changes in the not too clear when of the future, they do not point out lucidly for everybody to understand (“overstand”) that, only those some of us refer to as “the Poorest of our poor”, the most underprivileged, oppressed and exploited masses of people can , when very well independently organised, highly conscientised and therefore seriously disciplined, exercise agency in leading to effect truly democratic, profoundly egalitarian and justly equitable changes and, thereby, win a better Ghana; that is, the better Ghana which shall only be possible as an All-Afrikan popular revolutionary bridgehead of advancement towards the “Maatubuntuman” of a Pan-Afrika, in furtherance of the Struggle to secure a better World of Global Justice for themselves and for all the rest of Humanity!
The Real Threat of the October 2014 Burkina Faso Uprising to the Present Status Quo in Afrika
The real threat posed by the recent October 2014 uprising in Burkina Faso lies in the fact that it has completely shattered the deceptive illusions of the multi-party order of Western-style caricature bourgeois Pseudo-Democracy as the Fukuyama-type spinning of the fairy tale of the “end of History” for Afrika! It has powerfully demolished such illusions; and points in the correct direction of the possibilities of the underprivileged masses independently organising themselves throughout the continent and diaspora of Afrika, in order to successfully seize the global Pan-Afrikan revolutionary initiative and, rising up indomitably with the Decoloniality banners of Reparations, to completely eradicate, not only one despot, but the entire Eurocentric system of the multi-party caricature bourgeois farce of Pseudo-Democracy; an opprobrious system that has become the camouflage for the rottenly corrupt disorder of continuing military-bureaucratic tyranny in the Genocide/Ecocide perpetrating service of the moribund neocolonialist dictatorship of Euro-Amerikkkan Imperialism throughout Afrika today.
Some terribly frightened spokespersons of the Establishment status quo of Pseudo-Democracy in Ghana have been jumping up and down and running helter-skelter and squeaking loudly to try diverting attention from such a lesson from the example of the October 2014 Burkina Faso Uprising. They are desperate to make it look as if the Uprising was only about the removal of the long entrenched Blaise Compaore from continuing to run for the office of the Presidency of Burkina Faso. They want to hide from the masses of the peoples of Afrika, particularly West Afrika, the fact that the vast majority of the increasingly neocolonially dispossessed, exploited and impoverished masses of the people of Burkina Faso want not just the overthrow of one puppet of France; and are therefore continuing their grassroots Freedomfighting relentlessly for the complete smashing of the entire system of caricature bourgeois pseudo-democratic camouflage of the military-bureaucratic tyranny under the veil of which the neocolonialist dictatorship of Euro-Amerikkkan Imperialism is bloodily thriving all over the continent and diaspora of contemporary Afrika.
Sankara and Other Heroes and Sheroes at the Rendezvous of Victory
The October 2014 Uprising in Burkina Faso is not yet the completely successful Revolution envisaged, charted and worked self-sacrificially hard for by the heroic likes of Thomas Isidore Sankara. Nevertheless, it has brilliantly signalled the huge possibilities of doing “Sankofa” and “Returning to the Source” in order to move further in such a direction on the Burkina Faso battlegrounds of our one universal frontline of the Pan-Afrikan Revolution for Global Justice. Moving along courageously in this direction, which is for true Sheroes and Heroes, and not for the myopic, the faint-hearted nor the get-rich-quick hunters of fast-cooked fortunes, the present may still be hazy in Burkina Faso; but, as Osagyefo Kwame Nkrumah put it aptly so well in his 1967 book “Dark Days in Ghana”: the future is bright for our inevitably victorious Pan-Afrika! The meeting of Thomas Isidore Sankara with Osagyefo Kwame Nkrumah, Mantsebi Adorkor Kofi, Patrice Lumumba, Frantz Fanon, Amilcar Cabral, Kwame Adjimah, Delali Yao Klu, Queen-Mother Moore and their like of the Sheroes and Heroes of our Pan-Afrikan Revolution at the Rendezvous of Global Justice Victory is certain!
